New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) decided to fight the upcoming Delhi assembly elections alone against an overconfident Congress. Blaming the Congress for not taking its allies seriously, AAP accused Congress pointing to the party’s performance in recent Haryana elections.
Congress faced rout due to overconfidence. “In Delhi, AAP will contest alone. We are capable of fighting the overconfident Congress and arrogant BJP alone,” AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said.
Kakkar claimed that Congress thwarted all efforts by the INDIA bloc to forge an alliance in Haryana and “didn’t feel it necessary to take its ally along with them.” The AAP and the Congress had fought Lok Sabha elections together in Haryana, where the grand old party won five out of 10 seats.
AAP MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday penned a poem on X, dedicated to Congress and their alliance with AAP that the hand ditched during the Haryana assembly elections. This comes after Congress’ shock defeat in the state.
Congress was predicted to sweep Haryana according to the exit polls, and did look set to do so in the early trends. But BJP took over quickly and ended up with 48 seats. Congress in the end, managed to get only 37 seats.
