Imphal: The curfew imposed across the violence hit Manipur had been lifted for nine hours on Monday by the authorities. This had been done to allow the residents to purchase the necessary items for their daily needs but the mobile internet ban in the regions has now been extended till 20 September. This curfew was imposed last week on Tuesday by the Manipur Government to clamp down the actions taken under the state via attacks.

It started last year, when the Meitei and Kuki communities started out an ethnic violence among themselves. However, the conditions have now escalated, as they are attacking each other via rockets and drones. The recent attacks have also resulted in the death of at least 9 individuals in the drone and rocket attacks.

These tensions even grew when the students took over to the roads in Imphal on 8 September, where they gave an ultimatum to the government to take an action on the violence within 24 hours. Therefore, the Union Home Ministry along with the security forces are now overseeing the unified commands which also led to the imposition of curfew across the state.

As of now, the curfew has been relaxed for 9 hours in various regions which includes Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Thoubal. The officials have also warned individuals that there will be no group gatherings and others. This relaxation has also allowed individuals to purchase things from the local markets for their daily needs.
