Raipur: Two soldiers of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) lost their lives on Wednesday after the vehicle they were riding in fell into a gorge in the Balrampur district. According to police, apart from the two deaths, the collision also injured a civilian, a driver of the mini-goods vehicle, and another member of the CAF.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Lal Umed Singh of Balrampur stated that “the CAF personnel were engaged in shifting their camp when the incident occurred between Pundag and Bhutahi villages, bordering Jharkhand state.”
According to SP Singh, the 10th battalion of the CAF’s “D” company was relocated from Ramchandrapur to Pundag. As part of the redeployment exercise, he said, security personnel, supplies, and other things were being transported in buses and trucks to a new camp location.
“A small vehicle was hired to convey the cargo from Bandarchua village to the new campsite because the large truck used for transportation was unable to travel farther than that. The vehicle was involved in another mode of transportation after the products were transported once because the driver misjudged a steep hillside turn, fell into a hole, and struck a tree,” the SP added.
The police have identified the deceased as Constable Narayan Prasad from the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh and head Constable Fateh Bahadur, who stays in Uttar Pradesh. The injured constable was identified as Rapratap Singh.
