In a big scam of alleged over Rs 2 crore sudden fire erupted in Chhattisgarh, where two generations of a family were alleged to have dishonestly taken over a sugar consignment on rent and never paid it back to the concerned trader.

A team of eight traders has lodged a complaint, and Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, son of Shailesh Agarwal of Kalindi Kunj, Kalindihat, Raipur, has been booked by the Khamtarai Police in Raipur. Police say the two made a loss of Rs 2.01 crore that was the result of a well-planned business fraud.

According to investigators, Rajesh Agarwal’s image was that of a famous businessman and was connected to big transport and cold storage companies like Mahavir Transport and Chandgiram Cold Storage. He is said to have remained in the hotel in the Ramasagarpara area of Raipur and, in his capacity as a rich and influential businessman, he got in touch with traders.

The accused had, in this way, promised the traders that the payments would be settled within 3-4 days after the sugar consignment was delivered to Raigarh. In the midst of these assurances, traders were providing products without the demand for advance payments.

After the consignment was delivered, however, the accused order party allegedly refused to accept any summons for taking any action, the police said. First, excuses were given, but subsequently, it was reported that the communications were suspended. Traders alleged that they had placed their calls, but no one would respond to their calls, numbers were blocked and even taken off WhatsApp groups.

Eight traders admitted to giving out a total of Rs 2,01,36,633 worth of sugar. Listed are affected businesses such as Rajdhani Traders, RK Bansal & Co., KH Sugar, Vardhman Trading of Ambikapur, Tulshan Traders, Bhagwandas Bhojraj Firm and Singhal Provision.

An FIR has been lodged against the complainant in the office under Sections 316(5), 318(4) and 60(A) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The fraud is suspected to have been organized and the accused money transactions, business associations and contacts are being investigated.

Police officials have launched a search and have been trying to trace the accused, suspected of having taken shelter in Raigarh or the village limits.
