Sukma: Yet another brutal act of violence by Naxal insurgents as they kill a villager in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. In the shocking incident, Naxals mercilessly murdered 65-year-old Kalmu Hidma, the Chintagufa police station area of Pentapad village. The deceased is the younger father-in-law of former MLA Manish Kunjam. The residents panicked and feared this incident.
Naxals have reportedly attacked Hidma in the late night, in what they have not explained as reasons. Police officials responded upon getting the information about the murder and initiated an investigation at the scene. No motive for the killing had been clear Wednesday, and authorities are working to find out why.
For years, Sukma district, part of Bastar region, has been a Naxal violence hotspot. Numerous attacks on security forces, government officials, and civilians whom the police suspect to be police informers have been reported in the region. Once again, naxal activities continue to threaten the area, following the latest murder.
The fatal killing has shocked the local community and has increased the fear of further violence. In view of this, security forces have stepped up their patrolling in the area while efforts are being made to gather more information about the perpetrators. The police are also asking locals to come forward with any possible pertinent details regarding the investigation.
The gruesome murder of Kalmu Hidma is a grim reminder of the persistent Naxal threat in Chhattisgarh and should remind authorities to continue the probe into the killing, hoping that people in such regions should be secure from such threats.
