Durg. Durg, located on the banks of the Shivnath river, was given the status of a municipal corporation in 1981 for the systematic development of the city. Since the formation of the municipal corporation in 1981, every election of Durg Municipal Corporation has been special in itself, but this time this election has become even more special, because this time only two candidates are in the fray. Like every time, there used to be a triangular contest for the city government in Municipal Corporation Durg, but this time no independent candidate is in the fray. That means this time the mayor will be from one of the parties, BJP or Congress. Let us tell you that in the two elections, independent candidates have been at the second position, leaving Congress behind.

It is being told that this time the BJP and Congress leaders had put in all their efforts to stop the independent candidates. Due to this, not a single independent candidate came forward for the post of Mayor of Durg Municipal Corporation. This prevented the division of votes of BJP-Congress candidates. Indirect election of Mayor was held in the Congress government led by Bhupesh Baghel. Changing this rule, the present Sayyed government has implemented direct elections and EVM. If one wants to understand the Municipal Corporation elections to be held in Durg city, then it is important to know its history.
