Raipur: After multiple rounds of failed talks with the government, the farmer’s protest on Tuesday entered its 86th day. According to a survey conducted by designated officials, land in 12 villages including Khapri, Kayabadhan, Jhaanj and Chatuana panchayat have been occupied by the NRDA for which the farmers agitated heavily on Tuesday. Around 1200 sq feet of developed plot owned by the farmers has been taken away by NRDA unilaterally, for which they submitted an objection letter at NRDA office in the afternoon on Tuesday.
Several organizations have taken the front to amplify the protest and help the farmers in their fight for justice. Akhil Bharatiya Krantikari Kisan Sabha CG, Hasdeo Aranya Bachao Samiti, Zila Kisan Sangh Rajnandangaon, Mitanin Sangh, Traders organization have been standing in solidarity with the farmers. A press conference is declared to be held on April 3rd, where members from all unions and organizations would participate.
Hundreds of farmers have been protesting for almost two months to get a fair price for their land that was taken over by the government when setting up the new capital city of Chhattisgarh, Naya Raipur. These farmers had also been promised jobs in exchange for their lands, they claimed. After multiple rounds of failed talks with the government, the protesting farmers had set up a base outside the Naya Raipur Development Authority office.
