As part of a major crackdown against reckless driving, the Kamleshwarpur Police in Chhattisgarh has stopped 60 motorcycles and arrested their riders over a bike gang allegedly disturbing the quiet Mainpat town in Chhattisgarh, one of the state’s most sought after tourist destinations.
Police claimed that the group had been riding at high speeds in big groups in numerous roads, encroaching on public safety and inconvenience tourists as well as locals. A major complaint urban riders had was that many of the motorcycles were equipped with modified silencers, creating noise similar to a firecracker.
The Kamleshwar police started heavy surveillance of tourist places and main roads in the area after the complaints were received. When officers acted on the information, they undertook a special drive, catching up with the biker gang and arresting 60 bikers on the spot. The cyclists were transported to the police station where they would be subject to questioning and additional legal proceedings.
As per Motor Vehicles Act, police officials said that strict action would be taken against those who were violating traffic rules, riding with unauthorised modifications in the vehicles and riding without documents are valid.
Authorities have also warned that such car-to-car enforcement activity is set to be carried out in the future if the enforcement drive is successful in curbing potentially dangerous driving, keeping tourists and residents safe. They encouraged motorists to obey traffic policies, do not make any modifications to cars and look after themselves when on the road.
The incident comes as part of the police’s ongoing efforts to ensure law and order at the various tourist attractions and prevent any events that may compromise public safety or complicate the peaceful atmosphere of the region.
