Chhattisgarh Police conducted one of the biggest raids on illegal liquor smuggling in the history of the State. During the operations, 53 country liquor crates worth Rs 2.25 lakh were seized from Dhamtari district. Two suspects have been caught in the racket, and investigators believe it has a much larger network of illegal distribution.
It happened in the village of Dhaurabhatta under the Arjuni police station. Police Superintendent Bhavana Pandey said that the so-called Khilawan and Kamlesh had hidden a big stash of liquor in their home and were now in the process of distributing it.
The police operation got the go-ahead when it received credible intelligence from an informer regarding a large stock of country liquor hidden in a house in the village. Arjuni Police acted promptly on the tip-off and searched the property and recovered 53 cases of illegal liquor which even the investigating police was stumped.
The liquor seized is worth about Rs 2.25 lakh. Both accused were arrested and the police are now providing detailed questioning to find out the source of the liquor and who is involved in the supply chain.
Investigators say the snared stock was not likely to be that of two local smugglers. Initial investigations suggest that there is an organised liquor smuggling network within the area.
Now police expand investigations to trace the bigger family that’s behind the trafficking. There is hope of future arrests as officials try to break supply chain supplying illegal liquor in the district, officials say. The investigation is still in progress.
