Political activity is picking up in Chhattisgarh ahead of the five-day Monsoon Session of the State Assembly that is expected to start today (13th) at the Assembly House.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai held a meeting with Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh at his office on Monday. Both leaders had more than an hour of discussion about preparations for the next session and issues concerning the orderly conduct of the session, according to sources. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister headed straight for the state secretariat.
Later in the day the Leader of opposition, Charandas Mahant, got an opportunity to meet the Speaker. The meeting is seen as very important as political parties were finalizing their strategies before the Assembly sit.
The Congress has informed that it will raise several issues relating farmer during the monsoon session. These are related to Kharif season availability of fertilizers and seeds, irrigation facilities, availability of electricity, paddy procurement preparation and other agriculture related concerns.
Farmers have decryed lack of basic agricultural inputs, which is also impacting production activities in the state, the opposition has said.
Assembly officials say members have already posed 1,033 questions in their session. The Congress is likely to go on the offensive against the government on issues of law and order, water and power shortages, roads and infrastructure and preparedness for the monsoons and over the issue of the land purchased by the Congress party in Raipur’s Nakti area apart from farmers’ problems.
Also likely to be the subject of hot debate is the Nakti issue which has encroachment removal, displacement of persons and land offered for MLA’s housing. The strongest opposition questioning is likely to take place once a Question Hour is held followed by a Zero Hour and a Calling Attention motion.
