Police have launched an investigation into the mysterious woman’s death in Ambikapur after the skeletal remains of a female were found on Mahamaya Hill on Saturday. The body, which was identified as very badly decomposed and missing its face, has not yet been identified.
The woodsmen in the forest area of Mahamaya Hill, inside the police station limits of Kotwali, discovered the remnants of a tree, officials said. The remains of the body were still hanging from the tree, but the rest had already decomposed and were on the ground.
Information received by police and a forensic team was used to reach the site to investigate. Officials at the time of the inspection found clothes, bangles and some medicines there, they will do their best to try and identify who it was.
A big part of the body was rotting and immediate identification was hindered, police said. Investigators are unfolding the two bodies based on the clothes and other items recovered, and believe the bodies are those of a young female.
The body is being sent for post mortem examination to find out what caused the death. Meanwhile police are following up the missing persons reports at police stations in the area to check for the presence of the body and to determine the events that immediately preceded her death.
All angles are being explored, officials added, with more action to be determined by results of the forensic examination and post-mortem. Police are asking for anyone with information that might help them catch the woman and/or help with the investigation.
