Raipur: Notification has been issued on October 21 for 70 assembly constituencies of the second phase under Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023. With this the process of filing nomination papers started today. On the first day of nomination for the second phase of assembly constituencies, a total of 5 candidates have filed 5 nomination papers.
“Filling of nominations for single-phase assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and for 2nd phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh will begin this morning”, wrote Spokesperson ECI.
Recent information received from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer today, 1 nomination paper each has been filed in Premnagar, Raigarh, Marwahi, Bilaigarh, and Rajim assembly constituencies.
It is noteworthy that in the second phase under the Assembly Elections 2023, a total of 70 assembly constituencies of Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Surguja divisions are included. Candidates can file nomination papers for the second phase of elections in the state till 30 October 2023. Scrutiny of nomination papers for the second phase will take place on October 31. The last date for the withdrawal of names by the candidates is 2 November.
The Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023 are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 7 and 17, 2023, to elect all 90 members of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. The incumbent government is led by the Indian National Congress (INC) under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The main opposition party is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The first phase of polling will cover 20 constituencies in the Naxal-affected areas of Bastar and Rajnandgaon divisions. The second phase will cover the remaining 70 constituencies in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Surguja divisions.
The key issues in the elections are likely to be the state’s economy, unemployment, and the Naxal insurgency. The INC is hoping to retain power by highlighting its achievements in the past five years, while the BJP is hoping to make a comeback by focusing on the state’s problems.
