Raipur: Ancient idol of Lord Buddha belonging to the Panduvanshi period and other statues of archaeological importance were recovered from the village Sondra on the Raipur-Bilaspur road during the construction of a house.

Years-old ancient idols including Buddha idol, Shivling, and fragmented cobwebs have been found during the excavation to build a house of Dilendra Banchore in Sondra village situated on Raipur-Bilaspur road.

Sources reveal that the idol of Buddha was made of ancient sandstone in which Lord Buddha can be seen in meditation with closed eyes. The mudra is known as Bhoomi Sparsh Mudra. Experts believe that such idols have also been found in Sirpur in Chhattisgarh and Bodh Gaya in Rajim, Bihar.

Officials confirmed 4 fragmented slabs, some fragmented idols, and 4 Shivlings were recovered. Locals were happy to see the idols and believe that the land of their village has become blessed by this discovery.
