Raipur: A 38-year-old police constable allegedly shot to dead his wife before killing himself with his service rifle in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh.

As per the information provided by Rajnandgaon district police, the police constable Mukesh Manhar (38) lived with his wife Basbita Manhar (32) and the four year old daughter Jiya, in his residential quarter, situated on the premises of Manpur police station in an insurgency-hit area in the district. He was posted at the Man police station for a long time.

The police said as per the preliminary information, the couple had an argument over some issue on Friday night, following which the constable shot at his wife, Babita, before shooting himself dead with his service rifle. The four-year-old daughter of the couple was there in the house and she was sleeping, when the incident took place.

The colleagues of the deceased constable rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshots, the colleagues found the couple lying in a pool of blood. Both, the police constable and his wife were died on the spot.

The bodies of the couple were sent for autopsy. The police seized the rifle, which was lying beside the body of the police constable.

Police said, adding that a case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation into the matter has been initiated. Police have not found any letter or suicide note from the spot.
