Two people were killed, and 25 others were seriously injured when a Jammu and Kashmir TATA mobile bus skidded off the road in Doda district of Doda and plunged into a 200-feet deep gorge on Saturday. Thus, the given tragedy has once again drawn attention to the fact that the roads in the region are highly fatal for travellers.
Bus Accident Details
Speaking to Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, he said that the accident had taken place due to some technical snag in the bus. Singh added: “The driver attempted to avoid the accident as much as possible. We want to thank him for that. However, two people perished in the accident. Twenty-six people sustained one form of injury or the other; among them were two children. Four were in critical condition, and five more had to be taken to the hospital,”
The persons were immediately shifted to Government Medical College in Doda, and out of them, nine were in critical state and receiving treatment.” Singh added, “This is probably the cause of the accident – the bus has developed a mechanical problem.” Authorities are investigating to identify the particular reason behind the failure of the software to enable and avoid similar problems in the future.
Similar Incidents in the Area
This was an unfortunate event, which is not the first of its kind in the world. Only a day before, the car in which they were travelling met with an accident and rolled down a gorge in the Poonch district of J&K; a mother and son were killed in the accident. The said Bolero car, which was coming from Surankote to Srinagar and had eight onboard passengers, skidded and turned over at Pannar.
The threat was not over and came in another mishap, which occurred on July 9 when three people died, and three in critical condition were admitted to the hospital after the car they were in rolled off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district. Such cases are very common; therefore, it makes a call for enhanced protective measures on roads within that area relevant.
