On Friday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned that the legislature should offer at least 33% reservation to women and emphasized that the welfare, development and governance reforms were at the centre of the activities of the coalition government.

In the district of Tirupati, Naidu highlighted that the coalition government continued its commitment to enhancing the role of women in politics and decision-making processes at a public function titled “Two Years of Trust, Development and Welfare”. He noted that more women in the government would be a major catalyst and step toward inclusive governance and social development.

More than two years of coalition government, the chief minister said, the administration had been trying to bolster public trust by implementing welfare measures, infrastructure, and good governance.

Naidu said that addressing financial and administrative difficulties were big challenges for the state when the coalition government came to power. Over the last two years, his focus has been on enhancing governance mechanisms, bolstering law and order, and revitalising development projects, he said.

While stressing the policies of the government, he stated that “Andhra Pradesh is gaining investor confidence with investor friendly policies and investment sooty check approvals process”. He mentioned efforts to ensure production, job creation and public service provision.

The chief minister also made it clear that the government will support the welfare schemes that were promised in the election campaign. He mentioned various programmes for social welfare and development were in operation in conjunction with the efforts of the coalition partners and support from the central government.

Naidu also complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union government for its cooperation in addressing Andhra Pradesh’s development objectives.

News of the reservation of 33 percent of seats for women is expected to fuel political debate as discussions on ways to raise the proportion of women in the legislative institutions continue around the country.
