Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Jannik Sinner after the Italian successfully defended his Wimbledon men’s singles title, praising his resilience and composure in a thrilling final against Alexander Zverev.
World No. 1 Sinner turned the corner and took hold of his fifth Grand Slam title and first major of the season 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 over Zverev. Defending champion Sinner won the match to become the 10th player in history to hold on to the Wimbledon men’s title and extend his winning streak against Zverev to 10 matches.
In a tweet, reacting to the final, Tendulkar acknowledged the great show from both the finalists and emphasized the mental courage shown by Sinner.
“Alexander Zverev really threw everything at Jannik Sinner today. His serve, movement and shot-making were outstanding. But Sinner showed why champions need more than just their best tennis. He fought through difficult moments, stayed composed and kept believing. It was this resilience that made the difference,’ Tendulkar wrote.
The Indian cricketing giant also boeys Indian Sinner on winning his second Wimbledon.
Sinner had been dropped early at the French Open in early spring this year, bringing his impressive comeback. His Wimbledon win also put him at 6 wins for the 2026 season on the ATP Tour, further emphasizing his dominance in the men’s game.
Zverev reached his second back-to-back major finals, but fell short of a victory in each, bringing his chances of a back-to-back Grand Slam finish to a halt. Still, the German’s performances in the tournament solidified his place as one of the top contenders in the game.
