This is the end of the days of Ajit Agarkar, the Indian cricket team’s former chief selector, who had served in the role for over three years since his appointment in 2023. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started the application process for the commission vacancy of chief selector and speculations are already afoot on who will replace Agarkar. But, Ravindra Jadeja of India relished the time of discussion with his own fresh element of lightness.
The BCCI released its official notification regarding the unfilled advertisement and just a few words of Ravindra Jadeja came up with a clever ‘What the procedure?’ response on X.
In reply came Jadeja’s crack, which seemed to have been uttered with a sense of humour since he is not eligible to be the wicket as he is an active international player. However, his remark immediately garnered the attention of cricket followers and contributed an amusing spin to the debate raging about who will replace Agarkar.
The BCCI has laid down eligibility criteria for the post of chief selectors which include that an applicant must have retired from all levels of cricket for a defined time period and have a huge playing experience on International level. There are also provisions to prevent active players from sitting on selection or administrative panels.
Therefore, such a move is not a possibility for the Indian as he’s still in the game.Hence it is a huge shot out for Jadeja to be considered for such an opportunity till he is past his playing days. He had instead been taken as a jape on the BCCI’s announcement.
Agarkar’s exit has created an important vacancy in the Indian cricket administration and there have been different names floated around as contenders for the job. It is believed that the BCCI Application Process will decide the shortlist before the appointment of the new Chief Selector.
