The 33rd Olympic Games have started today with the magnificent and rather original opening ceremony. When the Paris Olympics 2024 kicks off, the Indian fans are in for an engaging beginning to the Games. The first day gives the audience a taste of various sports and performances by Indian athletes in shooting, badminton, tennis, hockey, and boxing events.
Indian Shooters Eye Medals
Shooting will be the flavor of the day, and Indian shooters are expected to come up with a rich haul early in the day. The spotlight is going to be on group and relay competitions; it will be good news for India to begin their tally from Athletics. Other competitors to watch are Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta, while from the women’s team, those to watch for are Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh. The medal matches are later on in the day. Also, in 10m air pistol qualifications, Arjun Singh Cheema, Sarajbot Singh, Manu Bhaker, and Rhythm Sangwan will be participating; eight of them will go to the final round.
Badminton & Tennis at the Paris Olympics
More other forms of sports will be displayed in the second half of the day. However, in the badminton singles, HS Prannoy will look to advance India’s position in the initial stages of the tournament, along with the doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy. In tennis, the oldest Indian competitor at the Paris Olympics, Rohan Bopanna, will combine with N. Sriram Balaji to oppose France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Fabien Reboul in the men’s doubles initial round.
Opening Ceremony
The official opening was very colorful and impressive; stars such as Rafael Nadal of tennis, Serena Williams of Tennis and Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid took part in the torchlighting. This was made even more special by a performance by Celine Dion, which can only be described as captivating.
On Day 1, optics are all going to be set on India’s shooting contingent as the expectations are high from the marksmen for an early medal burst. In the men’s singles sculls event, Panwar was part of Heat 1, and for this event, he got fourth position.
