Pakistani All-Rounder Mohammad Nawaz has received a sanction from the ICC Anti-Doping Code for violation of the ban on a prohibited substance in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the news of 32-year-old being found to be carrying a Substance of Abuse (SA) in his system after February 7, 2026, when he played for Pakistan in Colombo for their match against the Netherlands.
The ICC has said that Nawaz has confessed to the anti-doping rule violation and proven it was taken in competition-free setting “and with no intention to give the top-up to his sporting performance”.
Nawaz was initially found guilty of a three-month suspension date marking as from May 1, 2026, by him voluntarily accepting a provisional suspended. The ban will be lifted to one month, though, if he is able to participate in an ICC-provided substance abuse treatment program.
Moreover, the ICC has already put him on provisional suspension for around 2.5 months and agreed that he needs rehabilitation, and now it took his provisional decision of “suspension” off.
The governing body ends that if Nawaz can complete his treatment programme as per their satisfaction then he will not have to serve the period of ineligibility for a second time.
All of Nawaz’s suitability for the team has been disqualified after his T20 World Cup game with Netherlands and performances prior to May 1, 2026, against ICC rules.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) admitted to receiving cable from the ICC on the issue earlier this year and had started the necessary disciplinary proceedings but only delegated information to the ICC after its own conclusions.
