The IPL 2027 mini auction is set to take place in Goa on December 16, nearly a month after the November 15 retention deadline communicated to the franchises. The auction will coincide with the second One Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Once the retention submissions are finalised, the IPL governing body will share the complete registered player pool with franchises for shortlisting. The finalised bidding list and player sets are expected to be distributed to teams during the week leading up to the auction.

Since the conclusion of the 2026 season, the IPL trade window has witnessed two trades. In June, Lucknow Super Giants traded their captain Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in exchange for wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. More recently, Delhi Capitals traded fast bowler T. Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for uncapped leg-spinner Zishan Ansari.

As per IPL norms, the trade window opens a month after the conclusion of the previous season and remains open until the week before the auction. It then reopens and continues until a month before the start of the next season.

The schedule for the upcoming IPL season has not yet been released. In 2024, while announcing the scheduling window for the following three seasons, the tournament was planned to take place between March 14 and May 30. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia indicated after the annual general meeting in September that the 2027 edition could begin towards the end of March.

The mini auction will be the last in the current IPL cycle, with a mega auction scheduled ahead of the 2028 season. The next mega auction will also mark the beginning of the IPL’s next media rights cycle, for which tenders have not yet been issued.

In 2022, the IPL’s media rights were sold for Rs 48,390.5 crore, placing the tournament among the most valuable properties in global sport.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions, having defeated Gujarat Titans in the 2026 final in Ahmedabad.
