Captain Shubman Gill and opener Saurav Sudharsan had a brilliant partnership as Gujarat Titans outplayed Chennai Super Kings 89 runs in their IPL 2026 match on Thursday at Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Titans put on a superb 125-run partnership for the first wicket and then went on to score a huge 229 off the first wicket to be put in. Sudharsan gave a classy 84 off 53 balls to give a good platform for a big score, while Gill gave a good classy knock of 64 off 37 deliveries. Jos Buttler, the wicketkeeper-batter, then added the grand finale by blistering a 57 in 27 balls — with five sixes and four boundaries — to secure GT’s victory.
Causing a daunting target, Chennai Super Kings failed to get the momentum going as the Gujarat attack were aggressive from the off. The trio of Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets apiece and ended the CSK batting line. The visitors were bowled out for just 140 in 13.4 overs.
GT’s disciplined bowling and the immediate bowling order was too much for CSK who collapsed and were never in the contest. Gujarat Titans’ all-round performance put them in a strong position, while Chennai Super Kings’ loss officially eliminated them from the IPL 2026 season, ending their campaign on a disappointing note.
