Germany began their FIFA World Cup`2026 in style brushing debutants Curacao 7-1 in their debut match in a dominant Group E Group E opener at Houston Stadium on Sunday, 14 June. After two group exits in 2018 and 2022, the four times champions ensured 2026 begins on a positive note. They took home three points in the end.
Felix Nmecha opened the scoring early before Livano Comenencia created a historic moment for Curaçao by scoring their first-ever World Cup goal to level the match. He was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’.
Curacao made history scoring their first goal within 21 minutes of the match to equalize. Germany within 38 minutes regained control through Nico Schlotterbeck and Kai Havertz’s penalty before the break to make it 3-1. The onslaught continued after halftime with Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav and Havertz adding further goals.
Left back Nathanieal Brown slammed the fifth and substitute Denis Undav netted the sixth. Kai Havertz made his second to make it seventh goal for Germany reigniting the countries memorable win over Brazil in the 2014 World Cup.
Germany will continue their FIFA World Cup campaign taking over Ivory Coast. The two sides will take on each other on June 21 at the Toronto Stadium in Toronto, and it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top. It is worth noting that the Ivor Coast defeated Ecuador by 1-0 after a late 90th-minute goal from Amad Diallo to open their campaign in Philadelphia.
