Sports: Hours after Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced a special emergency fund “PM Cares Fund” for the nation to fight crisis like COVID-19 on Saturday. Many came together to show their appreciation and contribution.
On Monday, Team India Skipper Virat Kohli and his Actress wife Anushka Sharma took to social media to pledge their support to PM-CARES fund and Maharashtra CM’S Relief fund to combat the spread of deadly Coronavirus Pandemic,which has left the entire world in disarray.
The Couple,who has been constantly urging people to practise social-distancing via video messages did not specify how much they would be donating.
Earlier, Batsman Rohit Sharma also donated 80 Lakhs to fight the rapidly spreading COVID-19 Pandemic,saying the Onus is on the citizens to help the country get back on it’s feet. The Vice Captain of Indian ODI team donated Rs.45 Lakhs and Rs.25 Lakhs to PM-CARES fund and CM’s Relief Fund (Maharashtra), respectively.
He has also given Rs.5 Lakhs to ‘Zomato Feeding India’,which is helping families affected by the ongoing national lockdown,and another Rs.5 Lakhs to help aid the welfare of Stray Dogs.
Cricketer turned politician and Loksabha MP Gautam Gambhir on Thursday said,”He has decided to contribute his 2-Year’s salary as an MP to the PM-CARES Fund to tackle the COVID-19 Pandemic sweeping through the country. Earlier on Saturday,Gambhir had released Rs.1 Crore out of his MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) towards the relief effors amid the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Cricketer Suresh Raina on Saturday also pledged to donate Rs.31 Lakhs to PM-CARES Fund and Rs.21 to UP CM’S Disaster Relief Fund against the COVID-19 battle.
India’s richest sports nody Board Of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday joined the Corona fight and pledged a donation of Rs.51 Crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
BCCI’s affiliated units have also contributed in this donation. “Saurav Ganguly, President Mr.Jay Shah,Honorary Secretary and office bearers of along with the affiliated state associations on Saturday announced to donate Rs.51 Crore to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to contribute towards strengthening the nation’s disaster management capacities and encourage research to combat COVID-19 and protect Indian citizens”, the BCCI release stated.
India’s Test Team Vice Captain Ajinkya Rahane donated Rs.10 Lakhs to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He did not mention anything about his contribution on the Social Media.
Indian Cricket Team legend Mr.Sachin Tendulkar has donated Rs.50 Lakh for fighting COVID- 19. The other prominent cricketers include,the Pathan Brothers-Irfan and Yusuf donated 4,000 face mask to Baroda Police and health department while MS Dhoni,through a Pune based NGO,made a contribution of Rs.1 Lakh.
Hima Das,Ace Indian Sprinter has also pledged to donate her one month’s salary to Assam’s COVID-19 relief fund.
PV Sindhu,the Shuttler has also donated a sum of Rs.10 lakh to combat the spread of Coronavirus. Sindhu has donated Rs.5 Lakh to each Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Minister Relief Funds in fight against COVID-19.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia,who works as an OSD in Railways,has donated his Six Months salary to Haryana Coronavirus Relief Fund
