BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has put an end to speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s international future, confirming that the veteran opener has no plans to retire and remains an integral part of the Indian cricket team.
Rumours whispering about Rohit’s retirement kept rising louder and louder after the 39-year-old failed to score in the first two ODI matches against England, with reports linking the third ODI at Lord’s with his last chance in the Indian team.
But, Rohit answered them strongly by putting past them with 138 off 110 and saving for India a great day in the ODI arena at Lord’s.
On Friday, Rajeev Shukla told the media that the rumours around Panikcers retirement are “baseless”, originating in the social media and sections of the media.
“Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and is continuing to play. The things being circulated in the media and on social media have no meaning. There is no retirement talk of his at the moment,” BCCI Vice President said.
It is a time India is preparing for a hectic international calendar as the 2027 ODI World Cup is more than just a mere possibility now.
Rohit’s match-winning score has also bolstered his status as a key cog in the batting wheel of pace wielders India, who had been in doubt regarding his form due to a challenging stretch in the latest encounters.
The BCCI now seems to have come out with a clean sheet and are now fully endorsing their skipper, which has dismissed the retirement possibility altogether, enabling Rohit to concentrate on India’s upcoming assignments.
