Mumbai: The former BCCI chief selector, Chetan Sharma resigned from his role as the chairman of All-India Selection Committee today. He tendered his resignation letter to the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who accepted it.
The 57-year old former cricketer-turned-selector was recently involved in a controversy after a video of a TV sting went viral on social media platforms. Chetan was caught red handed in the TV sting making several shocking claims about Team India and many top players including the alleged issues between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly. It appears that Sharma did not know he was being filmed clandestinely at the time.
Sharma was reinstated as the chief selector only in January this year after the BCCI had removed the entire selection panel in November 2022, following India’s defeat from T20 World Cup in Australia. Chetan Sharma continued to function his duties until the new panel was appointed. His exit leaves Indian selection panel now comprising of Salil Ankola, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, and S Sharath. BCCI is yet to announce a new chairman.
