CJP protests: Here is what traversed through the day; Sonam Wangchuk continues fast
Sonam Wangchuk has announced to continue his fast on Monday in response to the treatment of the peaceful protest by the youth at the Sansad Chalo March. Wangchuk wrote that he will not break his fast until youth leaders are allowed to meet parliamentarians at the Parliament building. Or he is allowed to meet them in person.
In his message, Wangchuk said he was touched by how the youth have held on to peace despite provocation. He appealed to the government and police to resolve the matter by simply allowing students to present their grievances before Parliament, rather than treating them with violence.
As of the latest health updates by the Safdarjung Hospital Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive medical treatment at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital. His vital parameters are stable. Although his blood sugar levels remain on the lower side, other blood parameters have shown improvement following oral rehydration therapy (ORS) and Syrup Potassium supplementation. He continues to remain under the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of experts from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi.
Meanwhile, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka met Union Minister JP Nadda and conveyed their demands, including sacking of Dharmendra Pradhan. He alleged that police were “brutally cracking down” on peaceful protesters during the party’s “Chalo Sansad” march and appealed to MPs to stand in support of students. He claimed that protesters were being subjected to force during peaceful demonstration and urged lawmakers to stand in support of students protesting over alleged NEET-related irregularities.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das dismissed reports that Abhijeet Dipke had been detained or arrested. The Delhi police later rejected the similar reports claiming them to be misleading.
Chaotic scenes unfolded as the youth gathered around Jantar Mantar determined to stage a peaceful protest that later turned violent following the police intervention. Security forces used tear gas shells near Shastri Bhawan, baton charge was declared. Nearly 50 police officials including 5 IPS officers were injured during the clashes. Seven CJP protestors were detained near the Parliament.
The event witnessed the participation of several opposition leaders like Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav.
