West Bengal: Counting of the votes for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry began today morning. Besides counting of votes for by polls in seven Assembly constituencies across five states has also begun.

As of early trends, in WB BJP remains ahead of TMC by 132 seats while Trinamool Congress is leading in 109 seats. BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari seems trailing behind Chief minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabinapur vote counting. However, he is still ahead in the second seat he contested from, Nandigram.

The ECI has appointed 165 additional counting observers and 77 police observes for counting of votes polled during the WB elections on May 4th. Overall 293 seats underwent voting. The voting was held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. However, repolling has been ordered for the Falta Assembly seat in South 24 Parganas district which is due on May 21.

West Bengal remains one of the closely watches elections this time, with TMC and BJP showcasing a fierce battle marked by sharp exchange of allegations. Repolling was held at 15 booths in South 24 Parganas district, including 11 booths in Magrahat Paschim and 4 in Diamond Harbour on May 2.

Meanwhile, the ECI has announced that parties will not be allowed to hold victory rallies in the state after the declaration of results, “No rallies celebrating wins of candidates following the announcement of results will be allowed anywhere in the state today,” special obsever Subrata Gupta said.
