Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Mosaraf Hussen has stepped down from the job of the party’s West Bengal minority cell due to the “particular political conditions in the party”, it was suspected.
Itahar Assembly MP Hussen said that he resigned from the assembly on Sunday after being elected from the Uttar Dinajpur Assembly constituency. It had become impossible for him to stay put in the role in the present political climate, he said.
The senior party leader had been on the verge of becoming the President of the state minority cell of his party earlier this month. His resignation comes shortly after taking charge of the important organizational responsibility.
In an interview with the author, when he announced his decision on social media, Hussen said he moved for internal reasons within the party. He said he wasn’t currently on board with either of the two fronts that are supposed to exist within Trinamool Congress.
The MLA, however, admitted that he had had talks with one group, which was led by party leader Ritabrata Banerjee. He made a point, however, that he hadn’t made himself a member of any faction in the party.
Hussen’s accession has ignited an interest in the political in view of the growing differences and realignment within the ruling party in West Bengal. But he has not been quoted as saying that he will quit the Trinamool Congress or resign as an MLA.
The Trinamool Congress leadership has yet to make an official statement about his resignation nor announce a replacement for the post.
The rise could be interpreted as part of the party’s minority outreach policy, as the minority cell was critical to keep audiences for certain groups at bay across the state.
Additional evolution will follow in the wake of the resignation when the party is to review the situation to determine how the minority cell is to be organised in the future.
