Gwalior: Heavy rains lashed parts of Madhya Pradesh today. Rivers and streams in the state are overflowing. Narmada, Tapti, Shipra, and Chambal rivers are sprung up posing the danger of floods in the villages situated on the banks of Chambal. High alert has been issued in the areas of Gwalior, Chambal, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand.
Due to incessant rains, 8 gates of Omkareshwar Dam were opened in Khandwa at 9.30 AM. The ater level is increasing and in Narmadapuram also water is being released by opening 5 gates of Tawa Dam. The water level of Indira Sagar Dam is also increasing after the gates of Tawa Dam were opened.
The water level of Indira Sagar Dam is maintained due to the water consumption from the turbines of Indira Sagar Power Project. However, the quota for the scheduled water level for the month of July has been completed in Omkareshwar dam. Therefore, 1000 cumecs of water is being released by opening the gates here. In Bhopal also, water is being released by opening the gates of Bhadbhada Dam.
The water level of Chambal has increased by 4 meters as rain continues in Shivpuri, Datia, Bhind and Sheopur since the past two nights. Parvati and Amral rivers are in spate in Sheopur and Sheopur to Kota highway shall remain closed.
