INDORE: As per the latest update, 3 devotees trapped under the debris of the ancient bavdi (a large well) at a temple in Indore succumbed to the injuries. Indore Collector Dr. Illayarja T confirmed that deaths mentioning that the rescue ops were underway.
At least 25 are feared to have been trapped after the floor covering a stepwell at the Shri Baleshwar Mahadev Jhulele Temple in Patel Nagar collapsed during the Ram Navmi celebrations on Thursday. Chaotic scenes were reported from the spot. Police personnel, the commissioner, and all MIC members rushed to the spot.
An eyewitness said that a large number of people had gathered on the roof of the ancient bavdi and it caved in as it was unable to bear the load. A resident of Patel Nagar also stated that the temple was built illegally near the stepwell. It added that the construction had political backing.
