Madhya Pradesh: Madhya Pradesh rain has broken many records this monsoon. The state has received over 30 inches of rainfall since June 1. 22 districts of the state including the capital city of Bhopal have received 21% more than normal rainfall while 22 districts including Indore have received normal rainfall. It has been raining for the past three weeks and the situation is worst in Datia, Sidhi, Rewa, and Alirajpur.
Senior meteorologist Ved Prakash Singh said that the period of heavy rains has ended. Mahakaushal, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand shall receive drizzle showers.
Sources reveal that Bargi, Omkareshwar, Kilar, Gandhi Sangar, and Indira Sagar dams have become inundated and there is so much water in the catchment area of these dams that gates had to be opened a month before its due date.
Although rains have created flood situation in the state it has also contributed to increased water supply in cities like Barela, Sihora, Bhedaghat, Jabalpur, which are usually water scarce. The increased catchment aarea of Bargi dam has provided sufficient water for irrigation of moong-urad in summers. The total irrigation potential has increased to 4.20 lakh hectares through Bargi Right Bank Scheme.
