Kerala: V D Satheesan on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala, marking the return of the Congress-led UDF government to power in the state. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Satheesan at a grand swearing-in ceremony held in Thiruvananthapuram.

Alongside Satheesan, a 20-member Council of Ministers also took oath at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram as the new United Democratic Front (UDF) government. The cabinet includes senior Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan, AP Anil Kumar and KPCC chief Sunny Joseph. Senior IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty, RSP leader Shibu Baby John, Kerala Congress leader Mons Joseph, Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader Anoop Jacob, and CMP leader CP John.

CMP leader John and IUML leaders N Shamsuddin, KM Shaji, PK Basheer and VE Abdul Gafoor are also among the new faces in the Cabinet. While Congress leaders P C Vishnunadh, Roji M John, Bindu Krishna, T Siddique, KA Thulasi and OJ Janeesh are first-time ministers.

The 21-member cabinet includes 12 ministers from the Congress, five from the IUML, and one each from Kerala Congress, RSP, Kerala Congress (Jacob), and CPM.

Congress Party President Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were seen at the oath ceremony. Amongst other leader at the event, former CM, left leaders, BJP representatives and CMs from other Congress led states were also present.

In the Assembly elections held April 9th, the Congress led UDF secured a landslide victory with 102 seats, while LDF won 35 and BJP only 3.
