DELHI: After the global pandemic coronavirus, Locusts attack is the second disastrous calamity which has created havoc in India. From Pakistan to different cities of India and have now reached the outskirts of Delhi after entering Gurugram this morning.

Thousands of locusts were seen covering the sky near the Cyber Hub area of Gurugram. The migratory pests are likely to spare the national capital Delhi for now, officials said. Similarly, videos from Delhi’s Chhatrapur showed swarms of locusts flying in.

The swarms of locusts are gradually destroying the cultivation and hitting up the edible plants which have grown by the farmers. Not only the crops but many other things.

The Haryana government has issued a high alert after locusts entered Rewari and Gurugram districts, with officials saying that all necessary measures have been taken, including deploying tractor-mounted spraying facilities.

Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has called an emergency meeting here to discuss the attack of locust in neighboring Gurugram .The residents of Gurugram were asked to shut the windows last evening as a precautionary measure against the locust attack.

The administration has also asked residents to make clanging noises by beating utensils to keep the insects away.

“The swarm of locusts started around at 11:00 a.m. We immediately closed the doors and windows, the society administration started bellowing hooters installed in the buildings to drive away the insects,” said Rita Sharma, a resident of Beverly Park 2 at MG Road in Gurugram.

Locusts forms swarms in Africa and fly from Iran, Pakistan to India .They are known to have an enormous appetite.They eat plants and can destroy crops in days if left unchecked.
