Mumbai: Sushant Singh Rajput, a stellar performer, a finesse actor, a maverick artist and most importantly a smiling face left us for his heavenly abode on Sunday. Allegedly, he committed suicide at his Mumbai residence at the age of 34 and the cause was Depression.
Depression, in psychology, defined as a mood or emotional state that is marked by feelings of low self-worth or guilt and a reduced ability to enjoy life, was that what the actor was feeling when he was riding high in the success of his latest film “Chichhore” (which profoundly talks about not committing suicide what may come).
Having his sister just a call away, one can only imagine what drifted Sushant to succumbed to depression. One of the sharpest inquisitive thought is what was the last thing on his mind. His last instagram post where he put a picture of his late mother and himself with a caption “Blurred past evaporating from teardrops, Unending dreams carving an arc of smile And a fleeting life, negotiating between the two… #माँ ❤️” , itself speaks alot about the situation the actor was in but one can only dissect and analyse with no dead-end meet.
If the grapevine is to believe, Sushant had hosted a party just a day prior to his death in his bandra residence. Another said, He was under clinical depression from past six months.Some reports also said that anti-depressant pills were recovered from his house. With no suicide note and no solid proof, nothing has been confirmed as of now but the gossips have started doing their rounds.
One can only speculate but the concerned person has gone. However, His death left behind a grim question to introspect “Can Depression and Mental issue push someone to such extent?”. Even when you are riding high in your career with no financial crunch and always smiling.
“Depression can bring you down to so many levels that coming out of it requires great strength and sheer courage. Depression makes you dead inside with no light on the other side of the tunnel. Only being with your loved ones and talking about it in open helps you a little to cope up or else it makes you hollow inside. It’s what happens when one is compelled to accept the unexpected.”, said a psychiatrist who deals regularly with such patients.
Shekhar Kapoor, Indian film director and a close acquaintance of the deceased put some light on the actor’s depression and his dealing with the Hindi film industry which let him down.
“I knew the pain you were going through. I knew the story of the people that let you down so bad that you would weep on my shoulder. I wish I was around the last 6 months. I wish you had reached out to me. What happened to you was their Karma. Not yours.” said Kapoor.
In his seven-year-old career in the movies, which he chose over engineering, Rajput rode the crest with films like Kai Po Che!, Shuddh Desi Romance, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath and Chhichhore. He had just about come into his element and one looked forward to more.

The actor died of suicide in his sixth floor residence in Mount Blanc on Carter Road, Bandra, which he shared with art designer Siddharth Pithani, on Sunday morning.
MS Dhoni actor woke up at 6.30 am on Sunday whereupon he was served a glass of pomegranate juice. Subsequently, he went into his bedroom. An hour later, when one of the members of his staff knocked at his door wanting to enquire about the lunch menu for which he received no respond from the Kai po che actor. On receiving no response even after continuously knocking, the staff and his flatmate called and summoned Sushant’s sister. After her arrival, together they opened the door with the help of a key-maker and found him hanging from his ceiling fan with a bedsheet.
He was taken to Cooper Hospital where he was declared dead. According to the provisional postmortem report, the cause of death was asphyxia which was caused due to hanging. The post-mortem has been completed at Dr RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital. Additionally, his organs were sent to JJ Hospital for analysis to check if there is presence of any poisonous substance in his body. However, reports are still awaited.
The last rites of the deceased actor will be performed after his father and other family members arrive in Mumbai from Patna today.

PM Modi took to his twitter handle and paid his tribute to the talented actor “Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
Nitish Kumar, the chief Minister of Rajput’s native state Bihar mourned his untimely demise ” The untimely demise of the famous film actor Sushant Singh Rajput ji is sad. He was a resident of Bihar and due to his acting, he made a big recognition in the film world. May his soul rest in peace.”
Amit Shah, Union Home Minister expressed his grief over the death of the actor ” Anguished to learn about the sad and untimely demise of the young and very talented actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He will always be remembered for his contribution to Indian cinema. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and followers.”
The sports fraternity took to Twitter to express their grief over his death
The Indian Cricket Player Virat Kolhi said “Shocked to hear about Sushant Singh Rajput. This is so difficult to process. May his soul RIP and may god give all the strength to his family and friends”.
Anil Kumble tweeted “Shocked and saddened to hear about the death of #SushantSinghRajput Condolences to his family and friends. A talented actor gone too soon.”
Another Cricket player took twitter expressed his sorrow saying “So shocking and unable to believe this. Sincere condolences and prayers to the family of #SushantSinghRajput. RIP. May God bless your soul”.
Rohit Sharma, Vice captain of Indian cricket team said “This is distressing, can’t come to terms that this has happened. Really disturbing. Brilliant actor RIP brother.”
Along with the sports fraternity, the Bollywood industry also expressed their grief over such loss.
Amitabh Bachchan, the bollywood living legend penned down his feelings said “Why .. Why .. Why .. Why .. Sushant Singh Rajput .. why do you end your life .. your brilliant talent .. your brilliant mind .. laid to rest , without asking , seeking .. why .. .. his work was sheer brilliance .. and his mind even more .. many a time did he express himself in the depth of philosophical verb .. they that looked passed it were either in wonder or oblivious of its strength of meaning .. some wondered, some quibbled .. to some it was a subdued mirth .. subdued because , for it to be given lethargic ignorance, would have opened the caves of their own .. .. his speak was measured .. as was his screen presence .. ..
