New Delhi: The opposition presidential candidate, Yashwant Sinha, will file his nomination on Monday at around 11:30 am. Leaders including TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge and Jairam Ramesh are expected to accompany him for the filing of the nomination papers.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) working president and Minister KT Rama Rao will also be attending the nomination programme. Along with Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and some of the TRS MPs will also attend the programme. Former union minister, Yashwant Sinha (84), was chosen as the consensus candidate from the Joint Opposition for the upcoming Presidential elections which will take place on July 18th, 2022.
Sinha held his first campaign strategy meeting on Wednesday at the NCP office and said a “rubber-stamp president” will not work in the country.”I am thankful to all the political parties that have given me the opportunity in the presidential polls. I am glad that these parties have given me that credibility.
This election is not an individual fight for me. There are issues that the country is facing on which the electoral college has to take a decision,” the former Union minister said. Sinha joined TMC last year and was later made the party’s vice president. He quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018.
