Bareilly, UP: A 22-year-old is held following an encounter on Saturday in connection with the alleged rape of a minor, police said. Reportedly, the crossfire took place on Saturday morning when the police acting on the tip-off raided the hideout of the accused. The accused is reported to have sustained injuries during the exchange.

The incident took place on Friday after a six-year-old girl who went to a stationery shop in her neighbourhood didn’t return home. After searching for a long time, the father of the victim found her drenched in blood and immediately got her examined. On learning that she was raped he lodged a complaint against the unknown accused at Izzatnagar Police station.

As per the primary investigation, it is revealed the accused resided in the same colony and knew the victim’s family. The man allegedly took the girl to his home and raped her, police said. SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said that a case under IPC and POSCO Act has been registered against the 22 year old accused.
