NEW DELHI: Tremors were felt across Delhi, and parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck struck southeast of Fayzabad, Hindu Kush region Afghanistan, India’s National Center for Seismology said.
The earthquake struck at 11:19 AM IST at a depth of 220 km from the surface. Tremors were also felt in Srinagar and Jammu Kashmir.
According to the international seismological centre, apart from Pakistan and India, tremors were also felt in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China and Kyrgyzstan.
No major infrastructure damage or casualties was reported. Local residents were seen running away from home to safer places. People in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and some cities of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh were seen outside their homes with their kin to escape any untoward incident.
