Thane: A man in Maharashtra was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman in 2014. The order which was passed by District Judge SB Kachre on May 26th was made available to the media on Saturday. The order also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on the accused Vijay Divekar.
As per the hearing on June 7, 2014, the victim then 44 was raped at her home in Kalyan Town of Thane district while she was alone. The woman later tried to commit suicide by hanging herself, however, she was saved after being rushed to the hospital on time.
Following this, she filed a complaint, based on which the case was filed against the accused for the offences of rape and house trespass and he was arrested. So far as many as 11 witnesses were examined to prove the case against the accused.
