Prayagraj: The last rites of the son of mafia turned politician Atiq Ahmed, Asad Ahmed will be performed today in Kasari Masari graveyard in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. It is the same place where his father was cremated. Sources reveal that the bodies will not be handed over to the family but family members of Asad will be present during his last rites.
Former MP Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam were both wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case. They were killed in an encounter in Jhansi by the Special Task Force (STF) team of UP Police on Thursday. Asad was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and was carrying a reward of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Atiq Ahmed, who has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody, has been repeatedly requesting police to allow him to attend his son’s last rites but has been denied permission. He was no ordinary UP Bahubali, but had over 100 cases and zero convictions. He voted in Parliament on furlough when Manmohan Singh’s government risked falling.
The deceased Umesh Pal was a witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead in his home in Prayagraj on February 24. Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, Asad, and others were named as accused in the case.
