Iranian diplomats arrived at the Ministry of External Affairs’ (MEA’s) office at around 11:00 am. Goharifar was summoned as Iranian Mohammed Ambassador Fathali is in Hyderabad, the MEA revealed. The second diplomat who accompanied Goharifar was Ali Nasrullahtabar, Political advisor of Iran embassy in New Delhi.

India on Tuesday summoned the Iranian diplomat to register a strong protest after an Indian sailor was killed in the recent attack by IRGC on UAE flagged vessel near Oman. The attack took place when the tankers were transiting the southern shipping lane of the strait, within Omani territorial waters, the United Arab Emirates said.

In a statement urging immediate cessation of violence in the region, the MEA said, “India is deeply concerned by the attacks on two vessels, MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, during their transit through the Strait of Hormuz today. Both the vessels were carrying 30 Indian seafarers, among their combined crew of 46. Of the 12 Indian nationals onboard MT Al Bahiyah, one has tragically lost his life and another has been injured. Of the 18 Indian nationals onboard MT Mombasa, 9 have sustained injuries, including 2 who are reported to be seriously injured. We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased Indian national and wish speedy recovery to those injured,” 

The Emirati embassy did not specify the structural damage, however revealed the attack killed an Indian and injured 8 others on board. Of the 8 injured two were Indians and one Ukrainian it added revealing four were in serious conditions.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) also condemned “in the strongest terms” Iranian hostile attacks targeting national oil tankers ‘Mombasa’ and ‘Al Bahiyah’ with two cruise missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, within Omani territorial waters.
