Washington: India and the United States are currently in talks discussing the issue of a Khalistani terrorist killing, which has been a factor causing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. During a conversation with his counterpart Antony Blinken, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar shared concerns about Canada allegedly harbouring elements.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar firmly stated that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusation of ” government agents” being involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar is not in line with India’s established policies. India had previously dismissed Trudeau’s claims as baseless.
Jaishankar further criticized Canada’s position asserting that the country maintains an approach towards terrorists, extremists and those who openly promote violence. This leniency is believed to be influenced by Canada’s dynamics creating an environment for such elements.
Trudeau’s allegations against India lack evidence. Reports suggest that this information was shared within an intelligence alliance consisting of the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand. In response to this, India has accused Canada of providing a haven for terrorists.
US Secretary of State Blinken expressed the United States’ concerns regarding Prime Minister Trudeau’s allegations. Highlighted their communication with Canada on this matter.
Blinken emphasized the need for India and Canada to work together in conducting an investigation and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
Given the tensions, the situation remains dynamic, with both India and the US closely observing developments and attempting to address the allegations that have strained relations between India and Canada.
