New Delhi: The IMD in a fresh update on Tuesday issued an orange alert for nine Kerala districts – Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

“Fishermen are advised not to venture into these sea areas,” the IMD said. According to the weather department, winds with speeds between 40-50 km ph are expected over the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu coast, Andaman Sea, and other adjoining areas.

Around five National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed to Kerala. The agency has also asked people to not travel to hilly areas and avoid travelling at night. District administrations have asked people to avoid coastal areas due to high tide warnings.

The incessant rains across the state have disturbed normal life. WIth the arrival of the monsoon predicted by the end of June, the state govt has already stepped up its preparation to deal with eventualities.
