Shimla: 55 people have tragically lost their lives due, to the impact of relentless rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. The heavy downpours caused landslides that disrupted roads caused damage to homes and unfortunately resulted in worshippers being trapped beneath the debris of a temple. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared these statistics while expressing his concern cautioning that the number of casualties may still rise.
Sukhu emphasized the coordinated efforts to restore normalcy highlighting the urgency with which restoration work is being carried out. The Chief Minister stressed that despite the challenges faced restoration work is progressing at a pace with unwavering determination. Additionally, he informed that key routes such as the Chandigarh Shimla 4-lane highway and other major roads have now been reopened to facilitate connectivity across the region.
Meanwhile, in another development, fresh cracks have appeared in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. The heavy rains have further worsened the situation causing anxiety among residents of this town. Notably around 16 families residing in Panwar Mohalla and Negi Mohalla within Sunil village are facing risks.
Fissures have been observed on both lower sides of the village raising concerns about a significant landslide occurring. Consequently, residents were compelled to evacuate their homes during nighttime due, to fears of house collapses. On the anniversary of Independence Day Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern, about the impact caused by heavy rainfall in different states.
