Shimla: More than 280 roads in Himachal Pradesh have been closed due to landslides and flash floods brought on by heavy rains over the past two days, with 150 of those roads remaining closed on Saturday, according to officials.
The Lahaul and Spiti police have issued an advisory for residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution and not to cross the Jahalman Nallah as its water level is “rapidly” rising. Water from overflowing streams has entered several houses in Una.
Rescue efforts are underway in Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts in an attempt to locate approximately thirty individuals who vanished following the July 31 flash floods, but so far there has been little significant progress. According to the officials, 28 bodies have been found so far.
According to them, between June 27 and August 9, the state lost roughly ₹ 842 crore in revenue due to rain-related incidents that claimed the lives of over 100 people.
According to data from the state emergency operation center, 96 roads in Mandi, 76 in Shimla, 37 in Kullu, 33 in Sirmaur, 26 in Chamba, 7 in Lahaul and Spiti, 5 in Hamirpur, and 4 in Kangra and Kinnaur have been closed. According to the officials, the state’s 48 water supply and 458 power schemes are also impacted.
The regional meteorological office issued an ‘orange’ alert on Sunday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in five districts (Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamipur, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Una).
From June 1 to August 10, Himachal Pradesh experienced a 28 percent rainfall deficit during the monsoon, receiving 328.8 mm of rain compared to an average of 455.5 mm.
