New Delhi: India, in its latest tally, has recorded 22,890 new COVID-19 cases, which has taken the overall surge if infected people to 99,79,447. The single-day number of cases for yesterday has remained below 30,000 for the fifth consecutive day.

There were 338 deaths on the last count, which has taken the death toll to 1,44,789; this was the sixth consecutive day for the death toll remaining below 400. The number of recoveries is 31,000 in the latest tally, taking the total number of recoveries to 95,20,827.

The Union Health Ministry declared on Thursday that India’s COVID-19 recovery rate is amongst the highest in the world, which underlines the countries like the US, Brazil, Russia, and Italy.

The EC (Election Commission) said that its open to the prospect of offering assistance on the vaccine front, in administering the COVID-19 vaccine to the country’s population next year, if sought by the system. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that “the ongoing pandemic is an unprecedented national crisis that requires exceptional and extraordinary response”.
