NEW DELHI: The Serum Institute of India said that they are expecting a timeline of at least six months before they release one of their vaccines for public use due processes to be sure about its safety and efficacy, chief executive officer Adar Poonawalla said on Tuesday.
The number of coronavirus cases is rising day by day across the countries and in such a tough condition developing a safe vaccine is a tough task. For a safe and affordable vaccine for Covid-19, Serum Institute of India has partnered with the University of Oxford to speed up the development.
The private companies have already started the trials so that early prototypes of a “safe” vaccine would be made available as soon as possible.
“Once we are confident of a safe and good vaccine for India and the world. We will certainly announce it when we are licensed by the Drug Controller (DCGI), but that is still at least six months away from now”, said SIMS CEO Poonawalla.
“End of the year, we are hoping to have a vaccine. So we will discuss once the phase three trials for the product come about. Recently, there was news about another vaccine candidate which was being rushed. We do not want to rush anything. We want to emphasize safety and efficacy.” He added.
Serum Institute of India is one of the leading manufacturer of immunobiological drugs including vaccines in India.
