New Delhi: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan on Friday tendered an apology to the newly elected President of India, Droupadi Murmu for his objectionable remarks he claimed to be a slip of tongue.
In a letter to the President, he said that he mistakenly used an incorrect word for her and it was a slip of tongue.
“I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold. I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same,” Chowdhury said in his letter to the President.Trouble emerged in both the houses on Wednesday after Ranjan interacting with the media and addressed Murmu as ” Rashatrapatni”. The slip of tongue turned into an ugly verbal spat between Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister Sonia Gandhi.
The Union Minister Smriti Irani accused Chowdary of disrespecting Murmu and claimed that he had disrespected the entire tribal community, women, the poor and the downtrodden by his remark. She further went on to target Sonia Gandhi alleging that she had ‘sanctioned humiliation’ of a poor tribal woman who has occupied the highest post in the country.
The women leaders on Thursday staged a protest demanding an apology from Congress’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi.
