Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday that the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners has been granted a 3 per cent hike in motion, from July 1 by the Centre.

The resolution comes after the Centre also gave approval to several other ailing ventures, like rural development and measures to boost domestic sports goods industry and manufacturing.

DA and Dearness Relief Increased

The increase in DA will be a source of income for central government employees with the aim of easing the effects of inflation by three per cent. Home pensions are eligible for Dearness Relief and its purpose is similar.

Changes to the rates will be effective from July 1 and will apply to all payments made since that date.

₹7,395 Crore for Rural Development

The Cabinet also gave approval to the provision of ₹7,395 crore for the project of PM Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana. The project is supposed to promote rural development and improve governance and rural infrastructure.

Allocation is one of the country’s strategy to enhance the development outcome in rural areas.

Manufacturing, Sports Goods Initiatives

Other decisions made include one that promotes manufacturing of containers with a corpus of ₹10,000 crore. It aims to promote the domestic production capacity of the container making industry.

In addition, the Khelo India Sports Goods and Manufacturing Scheme with a corpus of ₹1,856 crore was also approved. It will be expected to facilitate the sports goods manufacturing industry as well as aid the development of the sports ecosystem in India.

The announcements serve to promote government initiatives in benefiting its employees and advocating for rural development and the strengthening of the domestic manufacturing sector, with a particular emphasis on proper allocation of financial resources and suitable policy measures to address these needs.
