Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has also come out very harsh on some of the leading congress leaders of the state after the recent joining of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia in the Congress party in the view of the Haryana Assembly election. His remarks come in the wake of two leading wrestlers making their entry into the Congress and thus boosting the political temperature in Haryana.
The wrestlers’ protest started two years ago, and Brij Bhushan, who was accused of sexual harassment by wrestlers, said it is a political drama staged by Congress. ”This conspiracy started on January 18, about two years ago I had said from the beginning this was not an athlete protest but a political protest,” he said. He directly named some members of Congress, especially Bhupinder Hooda and Deepender Hooda, as those who put the whole drama infront of the media. This is testified by yet another recent tactic of Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia quitting the wrestling team and joining Congress, proving that the party had organized the protest.
He further accused Congress of having worked with the wrestlers to portray a wrong picture against him. Brij Bhushan also criticized the same, saying, “This was never about respect for women”, but said the Hoodas and Congress leadership was steering the actual political agenda. He said the whole movement was spearheaded by Bhupinder Hooda, and the Congress party was just eyeing political advantage before the Haryana Assembly polls.
On his part, as the man in the eye of this politically instigated storm, Brij Bhushan chose to hit back at the opponents, saying that the ‘shame’ currently being heaped on Haryana daughters is not due to his deeds. He asked the people of Haryana not to fall for the protest led by Congress and to keep politicking at the back of their minds.
